Germany and France
The Austro-German world (represented here by Bach, Haydn, and Beethoven) gave rise to a compositional tradition whose creed lies in structural mastery, symmetry, contrapuntal precision, and rigorous forms. The French school (represented by Alkan, Fauré, and Ravel) pursued an equally methodical exploration, but one centered on the dissection of colors, their infinite nuances, and their ever-changing behaviors.
The coherence of this recital program offers a generous vision of these two philosophies of sound, revealing their apparent differences and profound similarities.
